Your IQ is not a direct measure of your reading abilities, which explains how it is possible to have a high IQ but a lower reading speed. One way to increase your WPM or words per minute when you read, is to simply practice reading. It's important to remember to verify you are not simply reading words quickly but are actually comprehending them. This can be accomplished by reading a story or an article and taking time to mentally reflect on what you have just read. Ask yourself to recall the topic, the supporting points, any explicit evidence, as well as things like author's purpose and presentation. Practicing this will increase your WPM and increase your reading speed.
