Speed reading is only good if you can understand and remember what you have read. If you can't understand what you read, it is the same as not reading at all.
However, if you really want to get faster at reading, the best way to do that is to practice reading. You can track your progress by timing yourself. Choose a book or passage you have never read before. Set a timer for 1 minute. When the timer goes off, draw a line where you stopped reading. Count the number of words you were able to read in that minute. Set your timer for one minute again, and start reading the same text over again. Then count how many words you were able to read in the second minute. Continue to do this until you have read the same text 4 times. You can then subtract your first word total from your last word total to see how much faster you have gotten.
Ccontinue to practice this activity with different texts every day (should only take about 5 minutes per day). Over time you will see that the number of words you can read in one minute on the first reading will increase.
