Go into reading with a plan for how you can help yourself get the most out of the reading. Your plan could include taking notes on important concepts, highlighting words/sentences that you want to remember, or even reading the text aloud so that you read more slowly and focus more on the text.
Coding is also a great way to help yourself understand technical books. In this strategy you use symbols to note concepts you understand, don't understand, or want to remember. For example, draw a star by important concepts to remember, a question mark for things you don't understand and need to revisit, and check mark for things you feel confident about.
