Absolutely! Readers, especially young readers, need to be able to us skills in order to make reading comprehension easier; one of those skills being and understanding of the purpose of the text. If a reader is reading a persuasive text, but is reading it as an expository text, he or she could miss the entire argument as they read because they are so focused on the research.
