How do I find the main facts and ideas as well as any arguments and conclusions on writing a brief summary?

Tahira R.

As far as you are asking about writing a legal summary, I would recommend to use the facts given in the case in the issue section of your brief. Then comes the rule part of the writing where you will have to search the specific rules/ principles relevant to the facts provided. Arguments of the both sides of the parties will be discussed in your analysis section. You will have to pay much more attention to this part of the whole text because analysis is where you will take the reader with you depicting a complete road map of the story leading them finally to the conclusion of the case. At the end of the document, a final conclusion based on the rules, analysis and facts will be provided. In legal writing, specific state statutes and provision must be illustrated in conclusion section so that reader would be well aware of the fact that conclusion is based on solid reasoning and current law.
