Is speed reading good for studying? What is the average speed for good understanding?

Speed reading is only effective if you are trained specifically how to do so. Anyone can read words, and many can read them quickly, but the comprehension is only as good as the brain has been trained to do so. That being said, if the material is something you are already familiar with, then speed reading could be effective in its time efficiency. However, if you are reviewing or studying newly learned material, I would advise against speed reading.
