Start by not trying to read each word. Try to read groups of words, maybe 4 or 5 at a time, get to know the gist of the sentence. Maybe move your finger under the groups of words as you read along. Try a ruler under or over the line, this helps you to concentrate.
Never plunge right into a book, read the back and inside of the jacket cover first. Wade slowly into it.
