An excellent way to annotate text in a technical text book is using different color highlighters. Each color would represent a different type of information. For example, yellow may represent vocabulary, green could mean an interesting quote, and blue may represent useful information you may want to cite. You decide what would be best.
Another alternative if you can't highlight in your textbook, is using different colored post it notes. Same concept each color represents a different type of information. Post it's may be even more convenient because you can use them as page markers to easily find information you need. Any more questions or need a more detailed answer feel free to message me.
