Solving math problems and comprehending a reading passage are very different. I imagine you are very good at following procedures and clear steps.
One way to make reading comprehension work for you is to break it into steps you can follow like a math problem. Here are the steps I suggest:
1) Read the instructions.
2) Read the question and answer choices (if there are any). This allows you to have a purpose for reading.
3) Read the passage. Underline or highlight details that help answer the questions you read first.
4) Answer the questions about your reading.
5) If you need to go back to the passage, do it!
