First, a Direct Object is the direct target of the verb.
Examples:
The hammer hits the nail.
Fred paints the car.
One example of an INdirect object:
Fred throws Bill the ball.
the fundamental statement is "Fred throws the ball.", by adding "Bill" more information is provided.
