How do you respond to the questions from a passage

The RACE strategy is a very effective strategy to help one respond to questions from a passage.


RESTATE the question.

      Reread and restate the question in your first sentence.

 

 

ANSWER the question that is being asked from the passage

 

CITE evidence from the text.

      Use evidence from the passage to support your answer. Note: highlight the evidence in the text and then refer back to that highlighted section to stay organized.

 

EXPLAIN your answer.

      Explain how the evidence from the text supports your answer. For example, you may use the sentence starter “This evidence explains that…”
