Artistic Shaman - Spirit guiding the visuals in your head to the world
It's all about the light!!!
There is no rating system unfortunately. Yes, there are a couple different types. Each company seems to have come up with their own patent that they're relentlessly pushing (Yes Pacific theaters, desist with your heavy clunky head pieces please) , the reason why some theaters or glasses/tvs have better or worse 3D is all because of LIGHT. The more light, the easier it is for your eyes to filter the image through the polarized glasses properly.
Those that allow less light through.....the thicker glasses, the alternating eyes, those that have batteries and or chargers and flicker....they are of the lesser quality. Not because of any other reason than they let less light through tho.
These models often lose the 3rd dimensions perspective momentarily, causing dizziness, nausea and headaches. AMC partnered early on with Real D, and they seem to have the best of all worlds going on. Those glasses allow the most amount of light through the polarized lenses and many of their theaters now project with high precision lasers that are brighter, stronger and don't dim throughout their life span.
All 3D can be disorienting if you're too close or at an odd angle or the projector is already running the film back with lower light. So watch out those of you who easily nauseate. 2D aint so bad .....5 minutes into the movie most people don't seem to remember what dimension they are watching in. (Yes James, that's a challenge!)
