You are right - practice makes perfect! Just by picking up a book and trying, you are already doing some great work. Sometimes, the type of book matters. For example, pick a topic that is interesting. Also, it can help to reach out to your local library. Library workers know pretty close to every book in the system (I used to work in a library), and they can help you find a super great fit! They may also have suggestions for programs that can help with reading skills and literacy.
