What is the infinity lens by Jim Frazier?

I know who Jim Frazier is and what he has done, but I only have basic knowledge of his invention. Could someone please explain what he has done further?

The Frazier lens allowed for very extreme close-up shots and a lot of depth of field at high apertures. This is used in anything from product shots in commercials to all sorts of visual effects making objects on screen seem larger than they are.
