In order to answer this question we first have to know what is going on in Angelicos painting. Annunciation is a common Christian theme that depicts an angel (Gabriel) announcing to the Virgin Mary that she is pregnant with Gods son. Usually artists base their clothing on the clothing of the time and a common setting to invoke piety and a connection with scripture.
So knowing this, if you wanted to create an Annunciation painting for todays college audience, what do you think would connect them? Maybe Gabriel is a doctor and Mary is on an exam table looking confused? Maybe a more light hearted metaphor would be a barista Gabriel giving Mary a coffee.
And remember, Mary is almost always seen wearing blue and usually with a halo of some sort...but the clothing would be modern.
