Gothic Cathedral question?

Why do you think the Gothic Cathedral is an almost perfect artifact for the study of humanistic expression?

Humanistic relates to the philosophy of humanism. Any church would hardly be an example of "humanistic expression" perfect or otherwise. If, as I suspect, you mean "human expression", where does the assertion that a gothic cathedral is a perfect example of it come from? I guess it would be fair to say that since a cathedral takes so long to build (hundreds of years in some cases) that it is a unique example of human committment to expression. Feel free to elaborate on your question if you'd like further input.
