Orwell has told the animals’ point of view throughout his novella. His narrative strategy achieves dramatic power. In the last chapter, power and totalitarianism are consolidated by the pigs. The communist dictatorship has devastated the democratic-socialist ideal of Animal Farm. The final scene shows how the manipulation of language by those in power can be used as an instrument of control. Note the inclusion of “all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others” as part of the seven commandments on the barn. Eventually, the pigs distort the original ideals of the farm and they become the tyrannical masters that held power of them. In other words, they stepped into the shoes of the tyrants that held power over them.
