Hi! I'm Shirley! Background Checks and Inquiries for Potential Jobs are often required before hiring, or provided by candidates for certain positions, security clearance-related, when filling out an application. if someone feels that they need to check their own background, to see if there may be issues holding them back from a specific job, they are free to do so.
However, An applicant's background/Your Background may be considered acceptable. The issue is for a candidate to have the relevant skills, accomplishments, degrees, potential to grow with a company, fit within the company culture, whatever it may be.
If you are relating to all of these factors, Then it could be how you market yourself on paper with resumes, sample work, networking--Who You Know. Cover Letters add an extra touch to help a candidate stand out, even if they are not required to have one, or haven't been asked to provide one. How do you dress for an interview?
Resumes also have to be tailored to the job position being offered, highlighting skills and qualities needed. It's not enough to say, "Works Well With Others/Team Player", etc.
A Resume is not a "Car Manual" or an Entire "Department Store". It is like an Ad for a Car. Or a Specific Outfit for a certain activity or occasion. A Resume for a short-order cook, will be different from a banquet manager, or a chef. A Sales Person might be paying part of their tuition, while waiting for a paralegal position at a law firm. Cross-over skills, accomplishments, etc. can be represented in so many ways to sell how one can fit in.
Networking online with webinars, online platforms, or being in-person at events, job fairs, when volunteering, or through leads from others can give someone an edge. Yes, Who you know, or Who you can meet Does Count!
Follow up with contacts and interviewers. They may give you feedback and advice. Is there a course or workshop, or new software to learn to increase your chances for a callback? Are you keeping folks up-to-date with what you are doing?
Lastly, things may be tough, but try to stay upbeat during these times. Self Care is not only Good for You, but can lead to more Opportunities.--I hope these thoughts are helpful! Feel Free to Contact me! Take Care--Shirley B.
