The key to all of these types of problems is isolating the X. We can work on different strategies on doing so.

The answer is (A)
The equation in the question:
18/(x - 3) = 2
multiply both sides by denominator (x - 3)
18/(x - 3) = 2
x (x - 3). x (x - 3)
18 = 2(x - 3)
18= 2x - 6
Add 6 to both sides
18= 2x - 6
+6. +6
24 = 2x
Divide both sides by 2
24 = 2x
÷ 2. ÷ 2
12 = x
Then solve for x on all 4 answer choices.
The only one which has a solution of x = 12 is (A).
2x - 6 = 18
+6. +6
2x = 24
÷ 2 ÷ 2
x = 12
I am going to presume the original equation is:
18 / ( x -3 ) = 2
Multiply both sides by (x-3):
18 = 2x -6
If a= b, then b = a by the symmetric property of equality.
So,
2x-6 = 18
And the correct answer is (A).
You can check this by solving each equation for x.
