What is the difference between narrative past? What is the difference between progressive progressive and active present tense?

In German, people use the present tense for the future implying a short duration within a 15 minute time: "Ich gehe einkaufen" ; I am going shopping; Likewise, the future tense is demonstrated with adverbs: "Ich sehe den Mann morgen." "I will see the gentleman early tomorrow." Northern dialect uses the narrative past instead of Present Participle. I ging zur Bank. I went to the bank. In the Bavaria, ich bin zur Bank gegangen.
