What are the advantages of learning English, when so many here in the United States speak my language?

There are many advantages of learning English while residing in the United States.

Here are a few:

1. You can speak with hundreds of millions of people, as there are over 300 million residing in the United States.
2. If you wish to become an American citizen, you can apply to become one sooner than later. In other words, you don't have to wait decades until you are eligible to interview in your native language to become a United States citizen.
3. You can read traffic signs; restaurant signs and other signs about town while driving.
4. You can read instructions and other documents that can improve your quality of life in the United States.
5. You can proudly declare yourself bilingual or multilingual!

I invite you to learn English with me. I tutor all ages in all aspects of the English language. I know this experience, as I learned Spanish as a teen. Then, I learned Arabic in my 30s. Now in my 40s, I am improving my French. I can craft lessons specific to you, as I know this makes all the difference!

Another possibility to consider when learning any language is that it allows you interact and connect with the speakers of that language in a way that you cannot when communicating in a language of wider communication, or in a language that is a second language for that person.

In the case of English in the U.S. specifically, while there are many multilingual people, there are also a lot more monolingual (English) speakers than in many other parts of the world. The fact here is that many American English speakers do not speak another language, and it will open up a lot more opportunities to interact with such people if you can speak English.

Again, this really applies to learning any language, but the difficulties of communication that arise from not speaking English in the U.S. tend to be much more pronounced than in some other countries.

Learning English will help you get a job, travel, and connect more with locals in the United States.

I lived abroad in Brazil and Colombia, and being able to speak Portuguese and Spanish helped me connect with the people. I was able to make local friends while I traveled, and they gave me very valuable advice.
