What exactly is the difference between the nouns "thought" and "thinking?"

Just to add on to this, a gerund is basically a verb in the -ing form (formally known as the progressive; usually used to express that an action is happening right now, ie "I'm thinking," or was happening for a non-specific or unknown length of time in the past, ie "I was thinking") that is being used as a noun.
