What is the English word that means the use of a the ruins of a building as a quarry?

Years ago I ran across a word that meant the practice of using bricks from old buildings, now in ruins, to build new structures. Many Roman buildings became quarries in this way because it was easier than making new bricks. I cannot remember the word and have had no luck searching for it.

That is the word, I very much appreciate the assistance with that. I don't know whether it will ever come in handy, but metaphorically it's a good one i think for writing notes to myself.
