Bryophytes like moss have a dominant gametophyte. The angiosperms have a dominant sporophyte; while the gametopytes are multicellular like the bryophytes, there are just a few cells. Bryophytes depend on environmental water to complete their life cycle, as the male gametes are flagellated. Flowering plants have microgametophytes with pollen tubes. Double fertilization is characteristic of the angiosperms, as well as fruits and seeds, important derived characteristics for life on land. Bryophytes produce spores. Vascular tissue (xylem and phloem), roots, stems, and leaves are some other important adaptations found in the angiosperms.
