My daughter was born with a cowlick. Cowlicks are pieces of hair that stand up in the front or back of the head. My daughter's cowlick was not tamed, until she started middle school. They are resilant pieces of hair that are difficult to tame, because they refuse to lie down. A good example of a cowlick might possibly be a photo of pee wee herman. The block of hair that he sported was more than likely a cowlick, but made into a popular and humorous look for the chracter.
