Mating displays do have the potential of attracting predators. Sexual selection is when the opposite gender selects for traits which may (some will say have to) reduce the fitness of the individual otherwise (based upon natural selection, etc). Speciation is not a cost and genetic variation is a good thing in a population in a dynamic environment so they are not costs.
