How to change the following paragraph from formal to informal?

In the beginning of his quest, Gansey receives help while Ender is left in isolation. Gansey reflects on the help he has received on his quest so far by thinking, "A museum curator in New Mexico had once told [me], Son, you have an uncanny knack for discovering oddities. An astonished Roman historian commented, You look under rocks no one else thinks to pick up, slick. And a very old British professor had said, The world turns its pockets out for you, boys,” (Stiefvater 24). Gansey has well-connected relationships around the world and each one tries to help him in some shape or form. Gansey has many close friends like Ronan Lynch, Noah Czerny and Adam Parrish. "Adam Parrish had been Gansey's friend for eighteen months, and he knew that certain things came along with that friendship," (Stiefvater 38).

Formal vs Informal is really just a style of writing... For example, informal writing will use contractions (I'm vs. I am, can't vs. cannot, etc), it may use slang or colquialisms and things like that.

It's really like the difference between how you would write a note or a text or something to a friend or your family (casual/informal) as compared to a paper or an email or something like that that you write to your teacher or your employer (formal). Grammar and punctuation rules might be slightly more relaxed with informal writing also (but you should still try to get it right, if that makes sense...?).
