The balanced chemical equation is: 4 P4O6 ---> 1 P4 + 6 P2O4
We can use these molar ratios (the coefficients in from of each specie in the chemical reaction) to interconvert between them.
- 3.65 mol P4O6 * ( 6 mol P2O4 / 4 mol P4O6 ) = 5.475 mol P2O4
- 50 g P2O4 * (1 mol P2O4 / 125.96 g P2O4) *(4 mol P4O6 / 6 mol P2O4) = 0.2646 mol P4O6
- In this problem, you must first convert the grams into moles in order to use them molar ratios for converting between species. This was accomplished by dividing by the molar mass of P2O4.
- 18 g P4O6 (1 mol P4O6 / 219.88 g P4O6) * (6 mol P2O4 / 4 mol P4O6) * (125.96 g P2O4 / 1 mol P2O4) = 15.47 g P2O4
- For this problem, you had to convert grams into moles, then use the molar ratio, then moles into grams again for the final product.
