You are right that digital can achieve equivalent (and even greater) resolutions, but film has visual qualities that cannot be directly replicated by digital. The simple answer: resolution is not everything.
The longer answer: Grain, color replication and low-light performance are aspects of film that are noticeably different (different but not necessarily better or worse) than digital. In low light, digital becomes "noisy," while film exhibits a more "pleasing" and natural "grainy" appearance.
And lastly, there is a nostalgia to the "look" of film. Digital can sometimes look hyper-realistic and unforgiving. Film is less perfect, it's vintage, it reminds us of classic cinema and the movies of old.
