Question

Mr. Sine wants to enclose a right triangular shaped garden with a fence. Two

sides are along the right corner of his property where a fence already exists. If

those 2 sides are 11 and 10 feet, how much fence, to the nearest tenth, will he

need to close off the third side?

Using the Pythagorean theorem we can determine the length of the third side which is the hypotenuse

Pythagorean Theorem: a^2 + b^2 = c^2, where a and b are the legs of the right triangle (11 and 10) and c^2 is the length of the hypotenuse we are trying to compute.
