An Empathetic Soul Enamored w/ Language and Creative Expression
Hi Jesset!
Assonance and alliteration are both literary devices commonly used on poetry and short stories. However, believe it on not, both alliteration and assonance are prominent practices people use to communicate in palatable ways.
What i just showed you, via the boldened letters, was an example of alliteration. Alliteration is a literary device that is identified by multiple words using the same letter, or more specifically sound, at the beginning of the word. Think about, for example, "leaving leftovers lying around" or "acting acutely accommodating." Notice that alliteration can utilize vowel on consonant sounds.
Assonance is a little bit trickier. Did you catch that? In "little bit trickier" all three words use the short "i" sound. That is an example of assonance. Assonance is when multiple words in succession use the same vowel sound within the word.
I hope this helps you with you assignment, and please do remember to use quotations, line numbers, and stanza numbers when writing your answer in complete sentences. For example: "In stanza [X], "[insert quote here]" is an example of alliteration/assonance (Author, line number).
