Muhammad died in 632 CE. The reasons Islam grew so rapidly after his death is three-fold. First, caliphates occupied a vast geographical area, seeking to convert non-believers to Islam. Second, Islamic scriptures set out a variety of rules that applied to issues such as property, taxes, employment, loans, etc. The end goal, according to the Quran, is to prevent greed, tax the rich, and prevent the confiscation of land. So the religion spread along trade routes and carried with it an ideology rooted in both the religious and economic system. The third reason Islam spread was because of the expansion of the Ottoman Empire.
