Traditions provide us with a foundation that can naturally evolve with time. The belief system can reflect heritage and history, and it can represent a reliable custom. We can't walk over these traditions because they were created intentionally, and it is our way of honoring the originators. This quote by a South-African dance native expresses the balance that is required to honor our past and share our present-day interests. She states that life is about moving [on,] and that's what dance is. Dance does not permit us to stand still; we are expected to get into motion. And by fusing present dance traditions with our past ones, we can update and spawn new creations thus keeping the movement going, and in some ways, making a full circle. This quote applies to our current situation with distance learning because of the adaptations we have been forced into. Figuratively, flexibility is mandatory. This new territory is still a reflection of the past when dancers around the could not be physically together. By considering our past, when connection was limited we inevitably reproduce history with an updated or modern twist.
