Do you know the difference between tutoring and enrichment services?

When you ask for a tutor, what exactly are you looking for? Are you looking for someone to review, practice, and drill skills taught in school either in person or remotely? Are you looking for someone who supports the curricuum but adds more background, asks students to think critically, has students write an analysis of a text assigned, helps the student make personal connections? Someone who teaches student to synthesize the information?

Hi! I think the answer to your question is: YES! I know that sounds simple, but basically a tutor can be all those things. A tutor is someone who helps a student at his/her level and moves them toward a better understanding of the topic/processes that they are attempting. Sometimes that means extensive tutoring in one level. Sometimes it means a light touch and editing. There are times when tutors need to create elaborate assignments to clarify an idea or parallel assignment, but often tutors sit at the level of the student and work with assignments already given by other instructors.

Enrichment services are services that offer personal classes apart from a student's normal classes. They can be in the normal Academics, but often they are in the arts, lab sciences, and outside physical development.

I get results because I assign classic literature be it BEEF STEW or Aesop's Fables in kindergarten through Call of the Wild by Jack London in Middle School. My students all read the Chocolate Touch in second grade and then learn how to do a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the Chocolate Touch with the Midas touch. Yes, at the end of second grade my students write a two page essay based on their Venn Diagram. I SPECIALIZE IN ENRICHMENT SESSIONS, NOT REMEDIAL. So, if you are working towards the Ivies, the earlier you start teaching higher thinking skills, the better.
