- Structure
- Endothelial cell = line the blood vessel that supplies blood and nutrients to the brain cells
- Astrocytes = Neurons that support structure of vessels and blood brain barrier, store glycogen for the brain cells to use, help transport/uptake neurotransmitters, etc.
- Pericyte = support blood brain barrier
- Function
- Filter system to allow things like nutrients to enter the brain and prevent toxins and chemical from entering brain
- CSF
- produced by ependymal cells in the choroid plexus of ventricles found in the brain
- Once produced from ventricles it circulates throughout the brain and spinal cord to be absorbed in arachnoid granulations to prevent accumulation in brain and spinal cord
- consists of plasma, electrolytes, certain cells like WBC

CSF is sure an interesting component to the system. How it all ties together. Hypertension is increased intravascular pressure, which would increase CSF production and then that in turn can put pressure on nerves and brain tissue depending on where the CSF accumulates.

Great! Thanks for answering I’m always happy to get a discussion going! These are all cool things about this system! Did you know CSF can serve to transport some hormones? Also another fun follow up question: would hypertension affect CSF volume or production rate?07/23/20
