Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
It used to be
John he/him
school or car, it
Sharon she/her
Kim& Jacob they/them
but with political correctness and transgender rights many schools want gender neutral pronouns, or self identified genders with corresponding pronouns. the Finnish and Filipino languages, Soumi and Tagalog have gender neutral pronouns. One way they do this in English seems to be to use the plural, they or them, which avoids gender, even when referring to just a single person.
This hasn't completely caught on, and even Democrat candidate Elizabeth Warren seemed to be critical of the idea, as not an issue worth considering, given other issues she believed more important.
He or She is for the subject. Him or Her is the object.

First person and second person pronouns avoid gender, as in I or me, we or us, or you (singular or plural)
