Higher the magnification, smaller the field of view. At lower magnification you get a wider and slightly deeper field of view covering a large area. One can look at that and guess the point of interest/alteration and increase the magnification and decrease the field of view to get the clear picture of a particular point/object whatever it might be.
At highest magnification of any microscope you have the smallest field of view since the scope is trying to focus on a specific point.
All microscopes have the same principle in terms of magnification and field of view/
