asked 11/07/19Many people say its 2, but the website I'm solving it on says 2 is incorrect. Help?!?!?!

2b + 8
2(b) + 2(4)
2(b + 4)
The coefficient is the number in front of the variable, so the coefficient is 2. Factoring it out, we get 2(x + 4).

Whatever It Takes To Help
Following the directions, we find by factoring 2 out of both terms that the coefficient for b changes from 2 to 1. When the 2 moves from 2b+8 to 2(b+4), it's no longer a coefficient. The coefficient of a variable without a number to its immediate left is 1.
Well, 2B + 8 is certainly equal to 2(B+4). I suggest you get the "website" to explain the answer.

Well, the directions are conflicting.
By definition 2 is the coefficient of 2b. No factoring is necessary
If factoring is required then
2(b + 4)
Go back the the original wording of the problem.

Hi, is it asking for the leading coefficient? Is there more to the problem not stated? The leading coefficient would be 2 based on the information you've given. 8 would just be the constant. If it mentions factoring and you factor it in this form: 2(b+4) then perhaps it is 1 however I don't quite understand the problem with the information given.
