Doublethink in 1984 can be seen as a result of propaganda, or the convenient changing of facts and reality and then officially pronouncing them as true. In other words, it is manipulative, telling people only what suits the purpose of a totalitarian regime and even changing what was previously said. It can be related to the concept of Newspeak in the novel.

The book is a political satire. Look at the political situation in which he wrote it to understand his purpose in using such terms and processes as Doublethink.
