The quote, "the tragedy of life is not in our failure but rather in our complacency. not in our doing too much but doing too little. not in our living above ability but rather in living below capacities...not failure but low aim is sin." reflects upon the human being's search for instant happiness. In order to reach our goals, in my opinion, we must be willing to stretch to our potential in order to gain the treasured rewards of life. Without effort, we merely exist. The quote emphasizes that a lack of effort is but a "sin", against whatever religious or non-religious criteria we hold ourselves against,. This is merely my interpretation, but I hope this helps.
