I have over 25 years experience teaching both children and adults in a classroom and privately. My teaching credential is from California State Northridge and I also have a bachelor's degree from George Washington University in East Asian Studies and an Accounting equivalency from UCLA. Special needs, ESL, creative writing, arts, and language are part of my background base as well. No subject area is too small or large to address. Teaching is what I love to do best and I want your learning to be a positive one.

My interests are eclectic and getting to know people is part of my own growing process. I am willing to travel to your home or a convenient public place, as a library, to complete instruction. My fee is $60 an hour. I have students who I've taught in elementary school that have made their way to college and we still keep in touch. Learning is for life, so make a proactive choice now to improve your child's future.

As a child, I struggled to learn math through the standard approach, listen and learn as the instructor teaches from the front of the classroom. Thus, as a result, I work with a student's strengths to facilitate his/her comprehension of mathematical concepts and always practice patience and understanding. We all learn differently and it will be my goal to find the way to make the subject worthwhile for your child.

I enjoy practicing a hands on approach to science and answering questions to make the subject relevant to today's world and believe we need to encourage our children to learn through creativity. In a classroom, sometimes a subject is raced over, due to time constraints, and in a one on one setting, a child can reach out and explore the possibilities.

I am a poet as well as a teacher and find beauty in linguistics. Any language should not just be memorized, but taught as a usable subject for communication in our global world.

Please contact me through Wyzant with any further questions and I will make your child's learning a priority.

Elementary (K-6th)

I received my teaching credential from Cal State Northridge and taught K, second, and fifth grade classrooms in Los Angeles County for about 10 years. Then, I ran my own private tutoring business helping elementary children in the core subjects of reading, math, science, spelling, social studies, and language arts for 15 years before moving to Orange County. I've also worked in funded programs with special needs students and volunteered to help in ESL at public libraries.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I've taught elementary math skills in a classroom setting as well as tutored one on one. A student must feel confidence and learn through his strengths to succeed. Using patience and multiple approaches, a teacher can find the niche to help a child move forward and build the necessary knowledge to succeed.

I am a credentialed California teacher who has taught in the classroom and privately and have worked with children with reading difficulties for over 25 years. A balanced approach of phonics and whole language learning is required along with an understanding of a child's specific needs to enable a child to reach his full potential. I am willing to put in the effort in a one on one situation to bring about positive results. Laurie G.

I have assisted children and adults in expanding their English language capabilities. They have improved their vocabulary to acquire jobs, pass test scores, and bring up families in a new country. By making it relevant to the student, language becomes a tool of success.

I've worked with adult readers struggling with qualifying tests to move up the career ladder. As a volunteer, I've helped new residents with necessary communications for every day life. English language skills are a necessity and I can make them yours.

Best thing that has happened to us since e pandemic

My daughter has been doing distance learning since last March. She was always behind in math even before the pandemic and we felt completely lost. We found Laurie and all of a sudden our daughter not only started to understand her math but actually started to enjoy doing it. We are so grateful to Laurie and feel very lucky to have found her.

VERY knowledgeable and patient!!

She worked through various competencies to see where my son was having difficulties. She kept a positive atmosphere throughout the lesson and helped him to understand and improve upon them.

Excellent tutor for our 6 year old

We just had our first lessons with Laurie and our son really loved her. She made the lesson fun, engaging and very educational. Our son is going into first grade and is yet to crack the code on reading. Laurie quickly evaluated him and within minutes had him working on phonetics and reading three letter words. Can't wait for more.

Math help

We connected with Laurie to help our granddaughter with some basic arithmetic. She just finished fifth grade and is really struggling with fundamentals. While we’ve only had two sessions we can see a change already and our granddaughter seems to be improving. We are confident this effort and Laurie’s help will make her sixth grade much more pleasant.
