Traditional and modern historians will agree that Christ died at the age of 33. However, what is often disputed regarding the date of Christ's death has to do with the date of Christ's birth. Historians that believe Christ died in 33 AD hold fast to the theory that Christ was born in the year 0 AD. Measuring Christ's birth at 0 AD was calculated by a scholar and mathematician who some historians now believe may have been off by as much as 2 to 6 years. These historians believe Christ may have been born as early as 6 BC. If that theory is correct then the actual date of Christ's death may have been in the year 27 AD. What we know for certain from the Bible is that all four Gospels put the time of Christ's death during the governorship of Pontius Pilate which was from 26-36 AD. Pilate's governorship was well documented by Roman authorities at the time. The year 33 AD is traditionally accepted as the year of Christ's death by most historians and church officials, however a more accurate answer may be sometime during 27- 33 AD.
