Question

Here is a scale diagram of a living room. Each grid square is 0.5 cm. The scale of the diagram is 1 cm : 5 ft.

1. Determine the actual size of the living room?

2. You need to put the following items in the room

1. Couch (7.5 feet by 2.5 feet)
2. Loveseat (5 feet by 2.5 feet)
3. Entertainment stand (10 feet by 5 feet)
4. Bookshelf (3 feet by 1 foot)

Draw a scale diagram with each of the items put into the room. Make your drawing realistic (i.e. not everything crammed together in one part of the room).

Answer 1

1) If the grid squares are each 0.5 cm and the scale is 1 cm:5 ft, that means that each grid square is 2.5 feet. The scale drawing is 5 grid squares by 10 grid squares, so the actual room is 12.5 ft by 25 feet.

2) Couch is 3 grid squares by 1 grid square

Loveseat is 2 grid squares by 1 grid square

Entertainment stand is 4 grid squares by 2 grid squares

Bookshelf is 1.2 grid squares by 0.4 grid squares

** Each line is 0.5 cm. and 1 cm=5 ft, so each line is 2.5 ft

Room is 5x10 ines. That is 12.5x20 feet.
