If we know that 3:2 is the ratio of cars:trucks, then we know that for every 3 cars made, there will be 2 trucks made. If n cars are made, then the number of trucks made will be:
n x (2/3) = (2/3)n
To get a better sense of why this is the case, we can treat "cars" and "trucks" as units. Thus:
n cars x (2 trucks/3 cars)
The cars "unit" cancels each other out, and we are only left with trucks as a "unit.":
