That's a great prompt question! To answer you need to consider the similarities of the gang life to that of a family. In other words what characteristics do they have in common? Based on the novel, how do the members of the gang relate to each other? What makes them a "gang"? When you have the common characteristics, draw conclusions about why a person would migrate toward the gang life? What might be missing at home?
