Was there any conflict/interaction between the Black Panther Party and the Nation of Islam?

In the late 60s to early 70s, the groups had a fairly similar ideology. They were both black nationalist. NOI had religious overtones, whereas the BPP didn't. Did they have strength in the same cities? Were they allies or opponents?

During the late 60s/early 70s, The nation was in a state of uncertainty. Being accused of Malcolm X's assassination did permanent damage to the NOI's reputation. Although many believe that the NOI gave birth to organizations like the Black Panthers, the two groups did not intermingle often. The NOI was a religious based organization, whereas the Black Panthers were not. The were some insolated incidents of conflict. The FBI renewed its counterintelligence project (COINTELPRO) to destabilize it from the late 1960s. Their tactics included sending FBI informants disguised as black panthers to attack NOI newspaper sellers.
