What kind of blood do they use in movies for bloody scenes?

I always wondered what kind of blood is used in movies. I thought it could be from animals or color or least possibly human blood which I am sure will not be legal. I ask because in a lot of movies actors spit blood from their mouths. If it is blood, then how do they do it?

You can purchase fake blood from costume shops or online, typically that's what's used in movies. If you want to save some money it's also pretty easy to make blood with corn syrup, powdered sugar, and food coloring. That way you can even eat it or have it come from your mouth if you'd like.
