As a copy editor and proofreader, I'd suggest getting through the entire paper, then going back for content editing/substantial changes, then getting someone else to read it through, as you'll likely not be able to see your own errors anymore. Typically, this the step a copy editor or proofreader would do. We look for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and general flow issues and inconsistencies within the text.

This is a personal style/preference, but in my experience when you're writing it's best to just keep going, get the first draft completely done and then go back and revise. However, there are times when I need a break from writing that I may go back and re-read some of the earlier chapters that I have done and will work through revisions in order to give myself a break, especially with a long book. What helps you to engage and stay on track with your writing may be very different than what works for me. Experiment and see if you can get more words and productivity one way vs. the other. I hope this helps.07/16/19
