Spanish for English Speakers / all levels,
Plain and simple .
both can not have the same Grammar or Verbal term , here is an example:
IN a formal writing or a legal document ,like a Passport , Id , Job application ,Birth certificate ....etc.
the input will be Nombre (name) it will never be like "como se llama ?" also, in a conversation or introduction of your self the correct will be, " Mi nombre es ,,,,,,,,,,,"
-second example: You are Pablo, just walk in to a birthday party, some one introduce you a friend , " Maria , I want you to Meet ???? ..........what its your name ?
-You " Pablo! , Me llamo Pablo"
The phrase '[Yo] me llamo' actually means 'I call myself' and is from the reflexive verb 'llamarse' (to call oneself). But 'nombre' is a noun and 'mi' is an adjective that get paired up with the verb 'es' (ser – to be). So you can use either idea to tell people your name, they just have different grammatical requirements.

To better illustrate this you can think of it this way:
+ Me llamo... = I'm called...
as opposed to :
+ Mi nombre es...= My name is...
However both are acceptable in all settings.
