AP Histoy- Problem with Multi Choice Question

My son is taking AP history in high school. He is doing fairly well, but one major issue is the multi choice questions on the quizzes and tests. He seems to know the material fairly well, but has problems with the MCQs. Is there some strategy to use to get over this hurdle? Is there some trick or practice to use to deal with the monstrous MCQs?

Obviously, the first step is to read ALL the choices. Don't impulsively choose the first one you come across that seems like it may be right - there may be another farther down that better fits the question.

When you are reading the possible answers, don't skim thru them - slow down! Some tests like to put in answers that at first glance looks right but are worded in a tricky way to

If the correct choice is not immediately apparent, go thru all the choices and eliminate those you are sure are NOT the correct answer. That way, even if you have to guess, you at least have a better chance of guessing right.
